CURRICULUM FIT

Where hydroponics sits in the CBSE syllabus

Soilless growing isn’t an add-on activity — it maps onto requirements that already exist in the curriculum, from middle school skill projects right through to senior secondary practicals. We shape each session to the stage the class is at.

CLASSES VI–VIII
Kaushal Bodh — Work with Life Forms

Skill education is now mandatory for Classes VI to VIII under NEP 2020, delivered through the NCERT Kaushal Bodh activity books. Students take up hands-on projects across three skill areas, and a hydroponics project touches all three. Tap a skill area to see how.

Kaushal Bodh is assessed through activity books, viva, portfolios and teacher observation rather than written exams alone — so students need something real to build, observe, record and present. A live hydroponic system gives them exactly that.

CLASSES IX–X
Agriculture skill subject (Code 408) & Science

For schools offering Agriculture as a skill subject, our sessions support units on crop production and management, horticulture, and seed production and nursery management — with a practical, modern-methods angle students can carry into their portfolio and viva.

It also reinforces core Science content: Life Processes (nutrition and transport in plants), and the Green Skills unit that runs through the employability skills syllabus.

CLASSES XI–XII
Agriculture (Code 808) & Biology practicals

At senior secondary, sessions go deeper — nutrient solution chemistry, EC and pH management, plant nutrition and deficiency symptoms, and the economics of a controlled-environment farm.

This connects directly to Biology topics like Mineral Nutrition and Plant Growth and Development, and to Agriculture units on crop production, protected cultivation and agri-entrepreneurship.

ACROSS CLASSES
Eco Clubs, ATL, exhibitions and projects

Beyond the syllabus itself, a working hydroponic unit gives Eco Clubs, Atal Tinkering Labs, science exhibitions and investigatory projects a live, year-round subject — one that produces actual data on growth rates, water use and nutrient dosing.

KAUSHAL BODH SKILL AREAS

One hydroponics project, all three skill areas

The same live system gives students work in each Kaushal Bodh skill area. Here’s what they actually do in each one.

SKILL AREA 1

Work with Life Forms

Students grow plants from seed without soil and track how they develop.

  • Sowing, germination and transplanting seedlings into the system
  • What plants need: water, nutrients, oxygen, light, CO₂ and temperature
  • Growing microgreens and leafy greens, and recording daily growth

SKILL AREA 2

Work with Machines & Materials

Students learn how the system is built and keep it running.

  • Parts of a system: reservoir, net pots, growing media, channels and pipes
  • Running air pumps and water pumps, and how a wick or DWC setup works
  • Measuring EC and pH with meters and adjusting the nutrient solution
Where can we grow — rooftops, balconies and school labs, discussed with Class VIII at DPS Faridabad
SKILL AREA 3

Work in Human Services

Students connect what they grow to health, food and their community.

  • Nutrition: why microgreens and fresh greens matter in daily diet
  • Saving water compared with soil farming, and growing food in small city spaces
  • Sharing the harvest and presenting their project to classmates and parents
OUR PROGRAMS

Two ways to run it at your school

We bring the systems, the plants and the expertise. No farm trip, no lab setup required.

FOR STUDENTS

Demo Kit Workshop

A full session delivered in your auditorium or classroom with working hydroponic systems students can touch and operate. Content and depth are pitched to the class.

  • Live wick system and Deep Water Culture (DWC) demonstrations
  • What plants actually need — water, nutrients, oxygen, light, CO₂, temperature
  • Microgreens: sowing, harvesting, and why they suit small spaces
  • Students seed and transplant into the demo units themselves
  • Depth scaled by class — from basic plant needs to EC, pH and nutrient dosing
  • Q&A with a working hydroponic farmer

FOR TEACHERS

Teacher Training

Prepares your teachers to run hydroponics projects independently through the year — Kaushal Bodh at middle school, Agriculture and Science practicals higher up.

  • Core hydroponics concepts and system types (wick, DWC, NFT)
  • Setting up and maintaining a classroom-scale unit
  • Nutrient and water management basics
  • Structuring projects for portfolio, viva and practical assessment
  • Troubleshooting common problems mid-term

“Introduction to Hydroponics” — Class VIII

September 2026 · Senior Auditorium · Kaushal Bodh programme

TechieKisan delivered a full-cohort session for Class VIII students as part of the school’s Kaushal Bodh programme. The session opened with what plants need to grow — water, nutrients, oxygen, light, carbon dioxide and the right temperature — before moving into soilless cultivation.

Two systems were demonstrated live: a wick system, where a wick draws nutrient-rich water up from a reservoir to the plant, and Deep Water Culture, where roots sit directly in nutrient solution with an air pump supplying oxygen. Students came up in pairs to sow, transplant and handle the units themselves.

The session also covered microgreens — what they are, how they’re cultivated, their nutritional benefits, and why they work well in small spaces like a school balcony or classroom corner. Teachers stayed back afterwards to look at the systems more closely and discuss running them as ongoing class projects.

WHY TECHIEKISAN

Taught by people who actually farm

TechieKisan speaking about hydroponic farming at DPS Faridabad
A working farm behind itWe run a polyhouse near Faridabad growing cherry tomatoes, bell peppers and basil hydroponically — the methods we teach are the ones we use.
Mapped to the curriculumSessions are built around what the class is actually assessed on — Kaushal Bodh, Agriculture 408/808, or Science practicals — not generic agriculture content.
Everything comes to youDemo systems, plants, nutrients and equipment are brought to your school and set up before the session.
Hands-on, not a lectureStudents operate the systems themselves — the part that makes portfolio and viva assessment meaningful.
